Mar 1st 2026

CENTCOM says three U.S. service members were killed and five seriously wounded after Iranian retaliatory strikes across the Middle East, following a U.S. and Israeli campaign that targeted Iranian military sites and leadership; this is a developing story.

  • CENTCOM says three U.S. service members were killed and five were listed as seriously wounded.
  • Several other troops sustained minor shrapnel injuries and concussions and are being returned to duty.
  • The violence followed Operation Epic Fury, a U.S. and Israeli bombardment targeting IRGC command and control, air defenses, missile and drone sites, and military airfields.
  • An Israeli official and President Donald Trump said Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in the strikes while Iran reports at least 201 dead and more than 700 injured.
  • CENTCOM denied online claims that the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln was hit and said it continues launching aircraft in support of operations.
  • The identities of the U.S. service members killed are being withheld until 24 hours after next of kin are notified.
