A.I. Money Floods 2026 Midterms, About $150 Million and Rising
Feb 24th 2026
A.I. companies, executives and allied groups gave at least $83 million to federal campaigns in 2025 and Meta spent about $65 million at the state level, producing roughly $150 million so far and more to come. Much of the spending is routed through super PACs and nonprofits and has so far favored Republicans while also reaching some Democrats with tech ties.
- A New York Times analysis found at least $83 million in federal donations from A.I. companies, industry-tied groups and senior executives in 2025, plus about $65 million in state-level spending by Meta.
- Greg and Anna Brockman gave four $12.5 million donations on Sept 12, 2025, that largely benefited leading pro-A.I. super PACs and pro-Trump efforts.
- Leading the Future, the top pro-A.I. super PAC, expects another $50 million from the Brockmans and Andreessen Horowitz in early 2026.
- A.I. spending has so far tended to benefit Republican candidates seen as friendlier to light regulation, though some Bay Area Democrats and other Democrats with tech ties also received donations.
- Nonprofit groups let A.I. interests fund political activity without full donor disclosure, including a self-reported $20 million from Anthropic to a nonprofit that supports some super PACs.
- The Times counted donations from major model developers, 21 big tech firms active on A.I. policy, affiliated PACs and senior executives using FEC filings submitted through Feb 1, 2026.
