ADT Ends Auto Unlock Feature With Google Nest and Yale
Mar 20th 2026
ADT has disabled the Auto Unlock feature that combined Google Nest face recognition with Yale locks, a move ADT calls a beta cleanup that follows Google’s broader shift in AI partnerships and AT&T’s new Connected Life platform.
- ADT turned off the Trusted Neighbor Auto Unlock feature on Jan. 29, 2026, ending the integration that used Nest doorbell face recognition to open Yale smart locks.
- ADT said Auto Unlock was an early beta and it will prioritize access methods that deliver a more consistent and dependable experience.
- The change follows Google’s recent push of Gemini AI for Nest and its growing partnership with AT&T’s Connected Life platform, which does not offer the same face recognition unlock features.
- Yale and Nest’s direct face recognition pairing still exists for now, but advanced third-party AI integrations appear to be scaling back.
- ADT remains a viable option for customers who accept contracts and monthly fees, but users should expect that third-party smart home integrations can change over time.
