CAF postpones Women's Africa Cup of Nations to July 2026

Mar 11th 2026

The Confederation of African Football has moved the Women's Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco from March to 25 July to 16 August 2026, citing unspecified 'unforeseen circumstances' while confirming Morocco will remain host.

  • CAF announced the tournament will take place from 25 July to 16 August 2026 instead of starting on 17 March.
  • CAF gave no detailed reason for the delay, citing only 'certain unforeseen circumstances'.
  • CAF said the rescheduling followed discussions with FIFA and other stakeholders.
  • Morocco will still host the tournament, staging WAFCON for a third consecutive time.
  • The competition also serves as a qualifying event for the 2027 Women's World Cup in Brazil.
  • Rumours that Morocco wanted to withdraw and that South Africa might replace it circulated before the announcement but were denied by officials.
