Denmark adds 3.8 billion kroner to Ukraine Fund and raises defense spending to 3.5% of GDP

Feb 23rd 2026

The Danish government will boost the Ukraine Fund in 2026, increasing total military aid commitments and meeting NATO spending benchmarks, the Ministry of Defense said on 22 February.

  • Denmark will allocate an additional 3.8 billion kroner to its Ukraine Fund in 2026, the ministry announced on 22 February.
  • The new funding joins 9.6 billion kroner already earmarked for 2026 and an expected 0.6 billion kroner from F-16 sales, bringing the 2026 total to about 14 billion kroner.
  • Denmark’s total military aid commitments to Ukraine now exceed 70 billion kroner for the 2022-2028 period.
  • The allocation raises Denmark’s defense and security spending to 3.5 percent of GDP in 2026, meeting NATO’s interim benchmark.
  • Proceeds from F-16 sales have been redirected to support Ukraine and similar future sales are expected to follow the same path.
  • Denmark pioneered direct military purchases from Ukraine’s defense industry under the 'Danish model' and is coordinating wider EU-level support and joint purchases, including a recent Danish-Swedish air defense procurement.
