Novak Djokovic may skip next week's Madrid Open as he continues to recover from injury problems that have already forced him to miss recent tournaments in Miami and Monte Carlo. The 38-year-old Serbian tennis star arrived in Madrid this week to prepare for the April 22-May 3 tournament, which he has won three times, but told Spanish broadcaster Movistar+ on Thursday that his participation remains uncertain. "I hope to compete here, I'm working towards that. I don't know, I'm not sure," Djokovic said while attending a EuroLeague basketball game in the Spanish capital. The draw for the Madrid Open will be held on Monday. Djokovic has struggled physically with what appears to be a right shoulder injury, having withdrawn from the Miami Open and skipping last week's Monte Carlo Masters. His recent form has also been concerning, as he lost to Carlos Alcaraz in the Australian Open final in February and fell to Jack Draper in the Indian Wells fourth round last month. The 24-time Grand Slam champion is now looking to recover in time for Roland Garros, which begins on May 24, where he will attempt to secure a record 25th Grand Slam title. Despite the injury setbacks, Djokovic has indicated he is taking the extra time to enjoy watching other sports and appreciating great athleticism.
