Eurostat: 4.2 million non-EU immigrants arrived in the EU in 2024

Eurostat data for 2024 show 4.2 million arrivals from non-EU countries and 1.5 million intra-EU moves, with large differences in immigration rates and origin mixes across member states.
- 4.2 million people immigrated to EU countries from non-EU countries in 2024.
- 1.5 million people migrated between EU member states in 2024.
- The overall EU immigration rate was 9.2 immigrants per 1 000 residents in 2024.
- Malta had the highest immigration rate at 60 per 1 000 residents, followed by Cyprus at 42 and Luxembourg at 38.
- Slovakia had the lowest rate at 1 per 1 000, while France had 6 and Italy, Latvia, Bulgaria and Poland each had 8.
- Luxembourg had the highest share of immigrants from other EU countries at 85.5%, while Czechia had the highest share from non-EU countries at 87.0%.
