First Mandelson files to be published on Wednesday
Mar 11th 2026
A first tranche of documents ordered by MPs will be published on Wednesday after review by the Intelligence and Security Committee and the police, with further files to follow.
- Conservatives used a humble address to compel the government to release Mandelson papers.
- The Intelligence and Security Committee and government officials are negotiating what can be published and what redactions are needed to protect national security and overseas relationships.
- An ongoing police investigation into Lord Mandelson means some documents may be withheld to avoid prejudicing any future court case.
- Lord Mandelson was appointed UK Ambassador to the US in December 2024, was later sacked after revelations about his friendship with Jeffrey Epstein, resigned from the Labour Party, and was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office while denying criminality.
- Cabinet Office minister Darren Jones said a substantial tranche will be published on Wednesday and that a second round of documents will follow once WhatsApp messages and other communications have been collected and checked.
