UK police have detained four men under the National Security Act on suspicion of assisting Iran's intelligence service, with searches ongoing and officials urging vigilance while praising security teams.
- Two men aged 40 and 55 were arrested in Barnet, a 52-year-old was arrested in Watford, and a 22-year-old was arrested in Harrow.
- All four were detained under the National Security Act 2023, the law updated to tackle foreign interference and modernise counter spying powers.
- Searches are ongoing at addresses in Watford, Barnet, and an additional property in Wembley.
- Police urged the public, and specifically the Jewish community, to remain vigilant and report anything that causes concern.
- Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy said Iran is the biggest state sponsor of terrorism globally and praised intelligence and police efforts for thwarting actions.
