Russian missile and drone strikes killed at least 14 people across Ukraine overnight Wednesday into Thursday, including a 12-year-old child in Kyiv and seven people in the southern port city of Odesa, according to local authorities. The attacks, which targeted multiple regions including Dnipropetrovsk and Kharkiv, left dozens more wounded and caused extensive damage to residential buildings and infrastructure. Ukraine's air force reported intercepting 31 missiles and 636 drones during the 24-hour period. On the Russian side, two children aged 5 and 14 were killed when Ukrainian drones struck residential buildings in the Black Sea region of Tuapse, local officials said. In Kyiv, rescue teams pulled survivors from the rubble of collapsed structures after a drone struck an 18-storey apartment building and a residential building partially collapsed in the Podilsky district. Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that 45 residents were injured, including emergency medical personnel. Odesa, which experienced several waves of missile and drone attacks throughout the night, recorded seven deaths and 11 injuries, while the Dnipropetrovsk region reported three fatalities and dozens of wounded. The strikes followed the end of a 32-hour Orthodox Easter ceasefire, which both sides accused each other of violating. The escalation occurs amid stalled peace negotiations under United States mediation and continued cross-border attacks in the four-year conflict. President Volodimir Zelensky has been actively reinforcing defense partnerships with European allies, announcing cooperation agreements on drone and air defense production with Italy, Germany, and Norway in recent days. "We need anti-aircraft missiles every day that the Russians continue their attacks on our cities," Zelensky wrote on social media. Since Russia's full-scale invasion in February 2022, tens of thousands of civilians have been killed in the conflict.
