John Lewis to pay first staff bonus in four years
Mar 12th 2026
The employee-owned John Lewis Partnership will award staff a 2% bonus after underlying profits rose, despite a small pre-tax loss caused by one-off costs and continued caution about the year ahead.
- Partnership will pay a 2% staff bonus, equivalent to about one week’s pay, the first since 2022.
- Underlying profits rose 6% to £134m and group sales increased 5% to £13.4bn.
- The group reported a pre-tax loss of £21m driven by £120m of one-off write-downs on old tech systems.
- Waitrose sales grew 7% to £8.5bn while John Lewis department store sales rose 3% to £4.9bn.
- The company says it remains cautious about the year ahead but is in a stronger position, and Jason Tarry became chair in 2024.
