Lamborghini cancels Lanzador electric coupe
Feb 23rd 2026
CEO Stephan Winkelmann confirmed the high-riding Lanzador is canceled after internal review and market feedback. Lamborghini says a plug-in hybrid will replace it and a full electric model will arrive only when conditions are right.
- Winkelmann told The Sunday Times that the Lanzador was canceled after a year of internal discussion and market engagement.
- The Lanzador was unveiled in August 2023 and was previously scheduled for a 2028 launch as a four-seater electric coupe with motors on each axle, torque vectoring, and rear-wheel steering.
- Lamborghini cited market preferences and difficulty delivering the specific emotional connection its cars require as reasons for cancellation.
- CTO Rouven Mohr had already signaled doubts, saying Lamborghini's biggest markets lack a strong push toward full EVs and the company cannot customize one car for every market.
- Company statements and reporting indicate a different plug-in hybrid will replace the Lanzador before the end of the decade, and a full EV will only be developed when market conditions justify it.
