Man charged with murder of court bailiff in County Durham

A 49-year-old man has been charged with murder after court bailiff Jeff Blair, 55, died following an attack while on duty in Shildon, County Durham on 10 March; police and the courts service are investigating and appealing for witnesses.
- Robert Davies, 49, has been charged with murder, possession of an offensive weapon and affray over an attack in Shildon on 10 March.
- Victim Jeff Blair, 55, a former Durham police officer who worked as a court bailiff, died in hospital after sustaining serious injuries while on duty.
- Davies has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Peterlee magistrates court on Friday.
- HM Courts and Tribunals Service condemned the attack, offered support to staff, and said it will review whether further protections for bailiffs are needed.
- Durham constabulary are investigating, maintaining a presence at the scene, and asking witnesses to quote incident 209 of 10 March when contacting police or Crimestoppers.
- Blair's family said they are devastated and that he will be forever missed and remembered with much love and affection.
