Meta to remove Horizon Worlds from Quest VR and make it mobile-only
Mar 18th 2026
Meta announced it will take Horizon Worlds off Quest VR this spring and move the platform to mobile-only as the company scales back its metaverse bets and refocuses Reality Labs after large layoffs and steep losses.
- Horizon Worlds will be removed from the Quest store at the end of March and fully removed from VR on June 15, 2026.
- After June 15 the Horizon Worlds platform will remain available only as a standalone mobile app.
- Meta cut more than 1,000 Reality Labs employees in January and has restructured its VR efforts this year.
- Horizon Worlds launched in late 2021 and added a mobile version in September 2023, but never exceeded a few hundred thousand monthly active users.
- Reality Labs reported a $6.02 billion operating loss in the fourth quarter as Meta shifts more investment toward artificial intelligence.
