Morrissey cancels Valencia show, blames festival noise and sleep deprivation

Mar 12th 2026

The former Smiths frontman said loud Las Fallas festivities left him unable to sleep and rendered Thursday's Valencia show impossible, posting multiple messages on his blog.

  • Morrissey called off his Valencia concert scheduled for 12 March, saying sleep deprivation made the show impossible.
  • He wrote on his blog Morrissey Central that festival noise, loud techno singing and megaphone announcements prevented him from sleeping after driving from Milan.
  • The singer said he was in a "catatonic state" and posted follow-up messages saying the circumstances rendered the show impossible and that recovery could take a year.
  • His arrival in Valencia coincided with the Las Fallas festival and he was staying in Plaza de Manises in the Ciutat Vella district.
  • Fan site Morrissey-Solo records 111 cancelled and 100 postponed shows since 2012, and this was his sixth cancelled concert in 2026.
  • The cancellation comes as he promotes his new album Make-Up is a Lie, and his song "Notre-Dame" has been reported to echo a right-wing conspiracy theory about the 2019 cathedral fire.
