President Trump said the U.S. is in a roaring economic golden age, but a Reuters/Ipsos poll finds 68% of Americans reject that view, with cost of living and inflation top voter worries and Republicans sharply divided ahead of the November midterms.
- 68% of Americans disagreed with the statement that the U.S. economy is booming, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll of 4,638 adults with a two point margin of error.
- Only 16% said there is hardly any inflation while 82% disagreed that price increases are no longer a problem.
- Cost of living topped voters' concerns and was the main issue they said would determine their midterm vote.
- Republicans were split, with 56% saying the economy is booming and 43% disagreeing.
- Forty four percent had not heard of the White House plan to limit large investors from buying single family homes and 48% had not heard of the proposal to cap credit card rates at 10%.
- Seventy eight percent had heard at least a little about tariff hikes and 54% said they expected tariffs to raise the cost of living.
