President Marcos declared a one-year national energy emergency after Middle East hostilities and shipping disruptions threatened the Philippines’ largely imported fuel supplies.

- The executive order creates a committee to coordinate the movement, supply and distribution of fuel, food, medicines and other essentials.
- The Philippines imports about 98% of its crude oil from the Gulf and is exposed to disruptions from the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
- Fuel prices have risen to more than double their level in February, increasing hardship for households.
- The government says there are about 45 days of fuel supply remaining and will temporarily rely more on coal-fired power as LNG costs rise.
- Authorities have provided subsidies for transport drivers, reduced ferry services and implemented a four-day work week for civil servants to conserve fuel.
