A fragment that appears to be a meteorite crashed into a Ponderosa Forest home near Houston on March 21, 2026, after a larger meteor fragmented over the area, officials and NASA said.
- A suspected meteorite struck a house in Ponderosa Forest north of Houston on March 21, 2026.
- NASA tracked the meteor visible at 49 miles altitude at 4:40 p.m. local time and said it broke apart 29 miles above Bammel.
- NASA estimated the original meteor weighed about one ton, measured roughly 3 feet across, and traveled southeast at about 35,000 miles per hour.
- Fragmentation produced a pressure wave that caused loud booms and a fragment tore through the roof and two stories, landing in the kitchen, according to local fire officials.
- Officials did not immediately report injuries.
