Italian fashion house Prada has unveiled an advanced inner-layer garment designed for NASA astronauts, marking a significant step in the brand's collaboration with Houston-based space infrastructure developer Axiom Space. The body-hugging Liquid Cooling and Ventilation Garment features ventilation tubes knitted directly into the fabric, providing temperature regulation for astronauts during space missions. The announcement, made at Prada's Manhattan store, represents the latest development in a partnership that began in 2024 when Prada unveiled a spacesuit intended for NASA's Artemis 3 mission to Earth orbit in 2027 and the anticipated Artemis 4 moon landing in 2028. Prada's chief marketing officer Lorenzo Bertelli emphasized the brand's diverse capabilities at the event, while Axiom Space CEO Jonathan Cirtain highlighted how expertise for space exploration products can emerge from seemingly unrelated industries. Analysts indicate that the renewed focus on lunar exploration will attract significant attention, making visibility crucial for luxury brands. While other apparel companies such as Under Armour (partnered with Virgin Galactic) and Columbia Sportswear (collaborated with Intuitive Machines) have entered the space fashion arena, it remains uncertain whether top-tier luxury players like LVMH's Louis Vuitton, Hermès, or Chanel will follow Prada's specific approach.
