Mar 11th 2026
An NBC News survey finds just 22% of registered voters express high confidence in the Supreme Court, the lowest level since 2000, with large partisan gaps and mixed reactions to recent rulings.
- Only 22% of registered voters said they have a great deal or quite a bit of confidence in the Supreme Court.
- Another 40% said they have some confidence and 38% said they have very little or no confidence.
- Confidence stands at 9% among Democrats and 35% among Republicans.
- The 22% reading is the lowest since NBC began asking the question in 2000; the previous low was 27% after the 2022 Roe v. Wade decision and the high was 52% in December 2000.
- The court has a 6-3 conservative majority and recent high-profile rulings include overturning Roe, a 2024 immunity ruling for Trump, and a decision striking down Trump's tariffs that 54% approved while 55% said the tariffs hurt the economy.
- The NBC News poll surveyed 1,000 registered voters Feb. 27-March 3 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.
