A red fox that sneaked onto a cargo ship off Southampton crossed the Atlantic and was found at the Port of New York and New Jersey, where it is now receiving care at the Bronx Zoo while vets complete health checks.

A two-year-old male red fox weighing about 11 lb (5 kg) was found on a cargo ship that sailed from Southampton to New York.
US officials detected the fox among cargo at the Port of New York and New Jersey and brought it to the Bronx Zoo on 19 February.
The fox is in the zoo's Animal Health Center and initial checks indicate it appears to be in good health pending further screening.
Veterinary teams will determine its health status and work with experts to find an appropriate long-term home.
How the fox boarded the ship in Southampton is not yet known, and red foxes are widespread and highly adaptable across urban and rural areas
