- Semisolid cells replace about 95% of liquid electrolyte with a semisolid medium to enable three dimensional ion movement and better low temperature performance.
- MG announced the MG SolidCore Battery and plans to install it in the MG4 Urban EV, making it the first automaker to fit semisolid cells in production cars.
- MG says the new pack will increase reliability by about 20 percent, speed up cold charging by 15 percent and raise power delivery by 20 percent.
- The MG4 Urban EV will use an approximately 54 kWh pack and could exceed 500 km in the urban cycle, positioning it as a city-focused long range option.
- Commercial deployment of semisolid cells could extend battery life, reduce leakage risk and pressure other Asian and European manufacturers to speed development.
