Spotify adds Listening Activity and Request to Jam to mobile Messages

Spotify is expanding its Messages social features on mobile with Listening Activity to show what friends are playing and Request to Jam to start shared listening sessions in chat.

  • Listening Activity shows real-time or last-played tracks in Messages and is available to free and Premium users but requires opt in.
  • You control who sees your activity and can turn the feature off in Profile > Privacy and social settings.
  • Request to Jam lets a Premium user send a live Jam request in any Messages chat and, if accepted, the recipient becomes the host with a shared queue.
  • Free users can join a Jam if invited but cannot start one.
  • Tap the Jam button in the top right of a Messages chat to send a request and unanswered requests time out after a few minutes.
  • The features are rolling out on iOS and Android now and will be widely available by early February for users aged 16 and up.
