U.S. consumer confidence edges up to 91.2 in February

Conference Board reports a small rebound in overall confidence while short-term expectations stay weak and the job market shows only modest improvement.
- Conference Board consumer confidence rose to 91.2 in February from a revised 89 in January.
- The short-term expectations index climbed to 72 but remained below the 80 level that can signal a recession for the 13th straight month.
- The present situation index fell 1.8 points to 120.
- References to prices and inflation were little changed but remain elevated, while mentions of trade and politics increased.
- Employers added 130,000 nonfarm jobs in January and the U.S. gained 584,000 jobs in 2025, about one fourth of the more than 2 million jobs added in 2024, even as the economy continues to grow.
