Ukraine spring push stalls as Russian forces consolidate gains

Mar 24th 2026 · Ukraine

Frontline reporting says Ukraine’s spring counteroffensive has made limited and often unverifiable gains while Russian troops have consolidated advances from Sumy to Zaporizhzhia and pushed toward Slaviansk and Kramatorsk.

  • Russian forces expanded a buffer zone in Sumy region, capturing Grabovskoye, Pokrovka and areas near Miropolye.
  • In the Seversk direction Russian troops advanced up to 12 kilometers along a 25 kilometer front and continued operations along the M-03 highway.
  • Fighting in Konstantinovka saw Russian units take the southern part of the city and contest industrial sites and the train station.
  • Center Group forces widened control around Pokrovsk and Mirnograd, seizing settlements including Sofievka, Shakhovo, Novy Donbass and Grishino.
  • Ukrainian counterattacks near Orekhov and Zaporizhzhia produced widely reported but largely unverified claims of gains while Russian forces breached a new Ukrainian defense line and captured Novoyakovlevka.
  • Operationally the AFU briefly disrupted Russian preparations but lacked sustained infantry and FPV drone capacity to hold territory, and by early March the counterattacks had largely stopped, leaving Slaviansk-Kramatorsk and Zaporizhzhia as likely focal points for the upcoming campaign.
