Poland to produce Ukrainian Bohdana howitzers under joint venture

Mar 10th 2026

Ponar Wadowice and Ukraine’s Kramatorsk plant have launched PK MIL to manufacture the 155 mm Bohdana howitzer in Poland, aiming to scale production, cut costs, and simplify supply to Poland and other countries.

  • Ponar Wadowice and Kramatorsk Heavy Machine Tool Plant created PK MIL, a Poland-headquartered joint venture in which Ponar holds a 51% stake.
  • PK MIL will produce NATO-standard 155 mm Bohdana self-propelled howitzers and Bohdana-BG towed howitzers in Poland.
  • Ponar is investing 100 million zloty for a new Wadowice facility and additional tens of millions to expand a plant in Łaziska Górne.
  • The Bohdana has been battle tested in Ukraine, with more than 600 units produced and over 800,000 rounds fired.
  • At an estimated price of about €3 million per unit, Ponar says Polish production will be cost competitive and easier to supply to Polish and other militaries.
  • The project is presented as strengthening European defence industrial capacity and aligning with the EU ReArm Europe initiative.
