US Consumer Prices Rise 0.3% in February; 12-Month Inflation at 2.4%

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers rose 0.3 percent in February and 2.4 percent year over year, led by shelter and food gains while core inflation and energy showed modest changes.

- The all items index increased 2.4 percent over the 12 months ending February.
- Shelter was the largest monthly contributor, rising 0.2 percent, with owners' equivalent rent up 0.2 percent and rent up 0.1 percent.
- Food rose 0.4 percent for the month and 3.1 percent over the past year, with food at home up 0.4 percent.
- Energy increased 0.6 percent in February and 0.5 percent over 12 months, while gasoline was up 0.8 percent month over month but down 5.6 percent year over year.
- All items less food and energy rose 0.2 percent in February and 2.5 percent over the last 12 months.
